Testimonials

I have been filming documentaries around the world for over 10 years now, mainly for the BBC. And I have to say that Jamin and his Himalaya Journey crew were definitely one of the best fixers I’ve worked with. All in all, I felt my UK crew were in very safe and experienced hands with Jamin. I would definitely recommend Jamin and Himalaya Journey and I would definitely work with them all again.

Loved my time with Himalaya Journey from start to finish. I was very nervous about travelling on my own, but I felt welcomed and well looked after. The food was amazing, the guides were really informative and I learned so much. What a wonderful place Tibet is. Thank you so much for an amazing experience that I will never forget.

We highly recommend using Himalayan Journey if you want to see and experience Tibet.
We had such a wonderful journey from beginning to end. From the time we were welcomed by our guide and driver at the train station in Lhasa, to the time we said goodbye to your Nepalese employee in Kathmandu. At all times we felt secure and in very good hands. Our guide, Sonam, was exactly as we had hoped he would be. Attentive, great English skills, extremely knowledgeable about Tibet, the religion, etc. and of course, very very kind.  Our driver, Udo, is a great and safe driver. Also very kind.

We truly appreciate knowing that we only supported Tibetan-owned restaurants and hotels throughout our stay. Even our children were taken by the stunning landscape that we drove past and the friendly Tibetan people we met along the way. They found it most interesting to see how the locals live (we were lucky to enjoy tea in Sonams father in-laws house), and loved the many animals that walks freely around the streets. So thank you, Jamin and company, for putting together the perfect schedule for our family’s journey through Tibet. We will always keep these memories in our hearts and minds.

I joined the 3 week group tour from Lhasa to Mt Kailash via Everest in June 2018 and had the most amazing journey. Jamin and Phurphu made sure that every day was an adventure filled with everything from small spontaneous hikes to visits to local Tibetan houses and restaurants to close-up meetings with nomads and yaks. Our wishes and needs were always heard and the program was altered and customzed during the trip itself to accommodate for preferences and weather. This flexibility together with both Jamin and Phurphu’s knowledge and passion for Tibet and its people shared through stories on the road or over a cup of butter tea made the trip a very memorable and special experience. And for a mountain lover like me all the impressive peaks we got to see! I will definitely travel with Himalaya Journey again and would highly recommend them to everyone who really wants to not only see but truly experience the Himalaya region.

I did a trip of a lifetime this year with Jamin and his team. A trip of a lifetime that I hold dear to my heart for many reasons. So glad I chose Jamin and Himalaya Journey to make it all come true. The Himalayas are breath taking, the tibetans are warm and cultured, and the journey is one for the spirit, body and mind. Jamin and his team really looked after us as a group and on a journey like this, it is so important to trust your guides and feel secure. Jamin took us on an amazing trip through the wilds and wonders of central and western Tibet, with some key highlights being Mt Everest Base Camp and Mt Kailash. The knowledge him and his team have is incredible. I hope to be able to revisit Tibet with Jamin and the team in the future.

Our trip to Tibet & Nepal was possibly the most amazing trip of our lives. These are parts of the world you need to be introduced to, you don’t end up visiting as a casual tourist and you’ll certainly need a guide. When we researched our trip it seemed that “all the roads lead to Jamin” and to Himalaya Journey – and rightly so.

Jamin is incredibly experienced and charismatic. He leads from the heart and speaks from his own, very unique, personal experience. It was important for us to know that our visit was going to benefit the people of Tibet and we were delighted to find out that Jamin cares about that very much. Jamin’s guides, Nyima Dolma and Jamyung in Tibet and Ashok in Kathmandu were also so knowledgable and simply amazing with their kindness and attentiveness. We feel so happy and honoured to have met them.

There were many highlights on this trip, from experiencing the holy city of Lhasa to finally seeing Everest (I’m obsessed with all things Everest) but mostly we loved experiencing people’s kindness and hospitality. I truly can’t wait to travel with Himalaya Journey once again and would recommend travelling with them in a heartbeat.

We miss you Jamin & everyone at Himalaya Journey!

Lucia and Tom—Italy and UK—April 2018

Thanks to Jamin, Nyima Dolma, Ashok and everyone at Himalaya Journey, I realized a lifelong dream of seeing the Himalaya mountains, much closer than I’d ever hoped. The overland trip from Lhasa to Kathmandu is carefully planned for the safest acclimatization. I loved that we visited original, not rebuilt, monasteries. The guest house near Everest Base Camp in Tibet was wonderful and welcoming. Jamin’s personal experience of living in Tibet, and willingness to speak frankly about its past and present cultural and political situation made the trip even more special. I can’t recommend this trip and the company too highly. I hope to be able to do another trip with Himalaya Journey in the not too distant future.

We really couldn’t have wished for a better trip to Tibet. We were lucky with health and with the weather. But the contributions of so many people went well beyond luck, and into the realm of professionalism and really great service. The pre-trip information was fantastically comprehensive and useful; the office organization impeccable; the guide awesome (a really amazing person to travel with); and the driver safe and steady over many hundreds of kilometres. In all, it was a wonderful experience, and we’re already looking forward to travelling with you again one day!

Linda and Nigel—New Zealand—April 2018

We had a superb trip with Himalaya Journey! We are a family of 5, and booked the trip through Himalaya Journey because we love the values of the company. Jamin was full of information in preparation of the trip – nothing seemed to be too much to asked and everything was responded to promptly with all the information you could possibly want. The trip in Tibet was amazing, organisation was perfect, and when we asked for it flexibility was easily arranged (we actually made some changes on the fly and that worked fine!). Nyima Drolma was great as our guide, entirely knowledgeable when needed and in the background when we are simply enjoying stunning scenery or walking the Shigatze Kora. Subsequently Ashok in Kathmandu was equally accommodating and assisting – even when we asked him to book flights with less than 24 hours notice he managed to turn that around! We had one of our best trips ever and will use Himalaya Journey again.

Had an awesome trip with Himalalya Journey to Nepal and Bhutan in Oct-Nov, 2017 for about 2.5 weeks. Email correspondence was very prompt and efficient and full of information. Originally we planned to go to Tibet first, and everything was booked – air tickets, hotels, guides, etc, but China decided to close Tibet to foreigners exactly when we were supposed to be there due to “government meetings”, and with just a month before the trip Ashok offered to rearrange our itinerary and many emails later, we decided to just do Tibet another time. Ashok was with us the entire time in Nepal – Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. Took very good care of us, offered very good advice and we had a really good time together.

Have to say, with the many many guides we had over the years with all our many trips all over the world, he is one of the best, if not the best guide. He’s very easy to be with, very friendly, quite funny, and we really enjoyed his company. He put up with our many changes in our itinerary (up to the day we were to land in Kathmandu due to flight problem) and offered suggestions and always let us make the final decisions and he made all the changes we asked for. We had a local Bhutan guide in Bhutan who was also very nice and took good care of us. Ashok made sure we made it to Bhutan and was well taken care of. Tibet is still on my list, and of course I will travel with Himalaya Journey again. Totally recommend them without hesitation. Five stars all the way.

Christine—USA—November 2017

We love our Himalayan trip from Bhutan to Kathmandu to Tibet! Initially, we were supposed to start the trip October 2017, but Tibet became close for tourists the same week we previously planned ours. We are really thankful to Ashok Shahi as he planned our trip really well and come November 2017, we were glad to have started with Bhutan and Nepal and ended with Tibet. Ashok was really helpful in planning our trip with all the details including the routes to take. Though we weren’t accustomed to high altitude, we were able to cope up by the time we were in Tibet as we were already used to the altitude in Bhutan. We had so many wonderful memories with our trip from trekking Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan, to seeing the squares and stupas in Kathmandu and reaching EBC in Tibet! We are glad to have done our most memorable trip with Himalayan Journey!

Tiffany—Philippines—October 2017

A trip like no other, is what first comes to mind when I describe my experience in Tibet with Himalaya Journey and Jamin, along with Nyima Drolma and Phuntsuk.

I had initially planned to visit Tibet back in 2012 and due to restrictions at the time, was unable to do so. It was definitely a blessing in disguise and am so glad I stumbled upon Jamin’s blog, the Land of Snows and his tour company, Himalaya Journey. Not only do you get to witness Tibet’s beautiful mountains, culture and people – you actually experience Tibet with the Tibetans. That’s the only way I can describe how I felt during the journey. Jamin’s ability to captivate you through his stories and lectures is astounding…. wow, so much knowledge! But not more so than his passion and determination to help the Tibetan people, which really comes through in everything he says and does. I highly Highly HIGHLY recommend going with Himalaya Journey. You will be so well looked after; and fed so well that all your hopes of losing any sort of weight is shattered on day 1… haha

Thank you Jamin – This was such a special journey for me and am so glad to have done it with you, Nyima Drolma, Phuntsuk the crew! I’ve learnt so much from you and my time in Tibet truly rejuvenated my spirits. I reckon I’ll be back in a few years  so until then… bless up and big love!

Ruby—Australia—October 2017

I booked a private tour in Bhutan through Himalaya Journey in October and it was such a perfect, amazing trip— I highly recommend Himalaya Journey and will definitely book with them again! All the details of the Bhutan trip ran so smoothly from the second I was met at the airport, and I was sad to leave at the end as I had become friends with my amazing guide and driver. Such personal attention to detail to ensure I got to see and do all the types of things I cared about, and was just such a wonderful experience in that beautiful, peaceful country. Cannot wait to go back!

Christina—USA—October 2017

It’s hard to describe just how amazing the 10 day journey from Lhasa to EBC was. One thing is certain: Jamin’s passion for Tibet comes across in how he puts together his tours. The mix of monasteries, temples, and delicious restaurants in Lhasa with the breathtaking scenery of the journey to the foot of Everest was riveting. Jamin told us so many stories about the Tibetan people and their history, which sometimes left our whole group in tears, and other times laughing hysterically. I don’t think a single member of the group could have guessed just how much we would all be impacted by the experience, and several of us have already discussed our next trip with Himalaya Journey.

Nika—USA—October 2017

I woke up on Jan 5th 2017 with a compelling urge to take my 10 year old son on a trip to a far away land fueled by compassion, uniqueness, and adventure! I took to google and typed in Tibet thinking it was the furthest place I could imagine. I am residing now in California. Up popped Himalaya Journey Jamin’s blog. I was captivated by his journeys, tips and trips and I emailed him right away. He responded quickly and said he had the perfect trip he could plan for us. I felt safe speaking with him and intrigued reading about his different treks and guided tours. I felt like I wanted to consider both the Tibet and Nepal trip as I would already be on the other side of the world. We corresponded for a month before I had the guts to tell my Husband I was taking our son to Mount Everest Base camp, thru Tibet and then on to Nepal. Jamin worked tirelessly with me planning something that seemed suitable to our needs. I am 47 years old.

Flash forward to October 2017 now my son is 11 and we are actually making this happen! We ended up taking 2 months for the trip but will spend almost 3 weeks with Jamin and his crew. We arrived in Lhasa after a couple weeks in China greeted by the most wonderful and beautiful female guide named Palmo and driver named Mr. Norpu. Palmo was so welcoming and shared the Tibetan greetings traditions and brought us to our car. Mr Norpu was a bright smiling face who greeting us nicely as well. I felt very comfortable to be with this pair for the next 10 days. The car was clean and fit our needs perfectly. It was a white Toyota 4 runner SUV. Palmo spoke beautiful English, Tibetan and Chinese, all a must for this adventure. She gave us so much information, customs and insight at every stop. We stayed in Lhasa a couple of nights to adjust to the altitude and saw sites, monasteries, traditional customs and enjoyed a welcome dinner by Jamin. The hotel was lovely and had a great breakfast buffet.

Day 3, we set off for our drive to Mount Everest Base camp. It took about 3 days and 7-10 hours of driving a day to get there. We stopped at decent (always the best) places to eat and nice guesthouses along the way. Neither one of us got sick the entire 3 weeks from the food in Tibet or Nepal. We had a little altitude sickness and some car sickness from the 108 switchbacks on the final leg to base camp. All worth it! Base camp 17,100 feet (5200 m) it was expected.

Mr Norpu knew where to stop for the most fantastic view spots and bathrooms. We ended up doing “open air” mostly because we were the “Pee Team” having to consume 2-3 liters of water a day each.  We played music, laughed and even cried at the connections we were making together and on the Tibetan plateau. I can’t say enough about this experience and how Palmo was critical to our adventure. Mr Norpu was a true professional driving around hair pin turns, bumpy roads and he felt a kinship with my son in a fatherly way. We had the best time of our lives. I could go on and on about the details but I don’t want to spoil the trip for any future clients of Himalaya journey. We walked into base camp at 8:30 at night just barely making the sunset behind Everest. Spectacular! The crowd in the base camp warm kettle like cafe where food and tea is served glanced up at our site and actually rose to their feet and applauded at the small boy standing in front of them. It was a memory we both will never forget and moment that we knew what we were doing was unique and adventurous. We couldn’t do base camp on the Nepal side because you have to be 16 but I know my son will go when he turns 16. We will call Himalaya Journey again for that. We stayed the night at base camp next to the Monastery. I hear they will be closing it down soon and you will stay a bit down the mountain at a different facility. I am grateful we had the chance. Confirm this with Jamin. We made it back to Lhasa having enriched our spirit and my relationship with my son in so many ways. Back to Lhasa!
Next it was time for our Adventure in Nepal. We flew over the Himalaya’s from Tibet to Nepal and it was absolutely breath taking. You never lose site of the mountain ranges as they rise over 25,000 feet into the air. We did visa on arrival in Katmandu and it was a pretty easy process. The airport is helpful as well guiding you on what to do. We were greeted by Ashok another one of Jamin’s guides and business partners. He was friendly and accommodating and had our trip planned nicely. We had a few days in Katmandu, stayed in Bhaktapur a night then flew to Pokhara. Again I don’t want to spoil the adventure for future clients of HJ. It was wonderful, informative and worth every penny.

We were in Katmandu during Diwali which was so much fun for us and very festive. We stayed in Thamel which I highly recommend. This time of the year was perfect for both trips especially if you want to pack lite. We didn’t need more than long pants lite jackets and tennis shoes for base camp. Shorts and long sleeve or less for the rest. We went to World UNESCO Heritage sites, Monasteries, and temples with shopping and great foodie spots. Ashok was a gentleman and always picked us up on time and was patient with all my sons questions and comments. All the hotels were wonderful and comfortable. Let them do the planning. They got this down. Relax and have an experience of a lifetime. Next stop India!

Why I believe Himalaya Journey was the perfect tour operator for us.

1) Flexibility – many tour operators have a schedule and stick to it religiously, but appropriate travel doesn’t work that way. When we wanted to leave Everest early because we had spent such an amazing morning at EBC and preferred to break up the long drive back to Shigatse, our guide and driver were happy to oblige. The ability to create our own group of 4 and build our own schedule was ideal.

2) Pacing – we met several groups along the way that seemed to be racing through Tibet. While the distances in Tibet are not immense in km they are long in time. The pacing your recommended allowed us to EXPERIENCE Tibet, not look at it. Strolling virtually alone in the back alleys of Gyangtse, having my son ‘chat’ with a monk in Sakya, and watching the monks debate in Lhasa were experiences we will never forget.

3) Off the beaten path – the recommendation you and your staff had got us to places where we were literally the only tourists. The hike above the monastery in Shegar (yes, we did glimpse the peak of Everest), the kora in Shigatse, and path above Sakya felt remote and special.

4) Tibetian businesses – the impact of China on Tibet cannot be overstated. Knowing that in our small way we were supporting the Tibetians by staying at their hotels and visiting their restaurants was VERY important to us.

5) You and your staff – Throughout the process you have been so available that I thought there must be two of you! Our driver managed to make the long, bumpy drives comfortable and safe. And our guide was so knowledgeable, kind, spiritual and loving that we all openly wept of joy at our departure.

6) Value – All foreign travelers to Tibet encounter the high cost of visiting Tibet and can’t help but be lured by idea of “saving a few $$” here and there. Somehow you managed to provide an extraordinary trip at a comparable price. You were not the least expensive, nor were you the most expensive. But I can say without hesitation that you provided by far the best value.

And you did a nice job of “under-promising” on our accommodations as they were all high quality, clean, comfortable, and welcoming.

Please feel free to direct any travelers “on the fence” about your services to me and I’ll happily answer any questions they might have.

Being a female solo traveler has its challenges but, I have to say they were mostly negated by Ashok and Himalaya Journey.
I did quite a bit of research before settling on this group and making my final decisions. Ashok listened to my wants and concerns and tailored a 2 week trip of exactly what I was looking for: Kathmandu, Chitwan Breeding Center, Pokhara and Tibet all comfortably in 2 weeks!! 😁 Planned so very well.
Having never been to this part of the world, I was a bit wary, to be honest. With Ashok I had a guide and assistance when I needed but, a solo travel experience when I wanted, as well. The perfect balance.
Can’t recommend them enough!!

ML—USA—June 2017

I can only sing praises for Himalaya Journeys, I thought long and hard and asked myself was there anything that could of been done different to make this trip of a lifetime to Lhasa, Everest, Mt Kailash and Guge Kingdom any better. I could not come up with a single thing, this was the perfect trip! all the planning and backup plans executed flawlessly, the people I met on the journey, Jamin’s amazing talks on the bus, knowledge of Tibetan History, the guides. Jamin’s concern for the well being of all of us and constant checks for High Altitude sickness was extremely reassuring. And all of this in the third most remote region on earth. I will certainly be doing more trips with you Jamin! And can only highly recommend anyone thinking of travelling with Himalaya Journey that you won’t be disappointed.

Michael—Australia—May 2017

Tashi Delek! I recently went on a 23 day tour with Himalaya Journey, led by Jamin with his amazing staff Phunstok, Tenzin Ngodrup and Anna to the Western Tibet area of Mt.Kailash and the Guge Kingdom as well as Lhasa, Mt Everest base camp and many other memorable places in Tibet. Their sheer dedication, genuine concern for myself and the group’s welfare was displayed unceasingly, and I was very impressed by the team’s professionalism and knowledge. Phuntsok was a careful and considerate driver, Tenzin Ngodrup was a very experienced tour guide who knew the answers to my never-ending questions and Anna was a remarkable intern looking after us all!
Being a regular trekker of the Himalayas, I can say this was by far the best trip I ever went on, led by someone who is experienced, knowledgeable but more importantly, someone who made sure everything was fine throughout the journey, from start to finish. Despite the high altitude, Jamin looked after myself, and the tour group members all the time, and ensured our safety was paramount, up to the highest point of 5640m at the Drolma La Pass around Mt.Kailash. I have left Tibet now with unforgettable memories, new friendships and the knowledge that I went through a tour agency that supports the Tibetan people. I am grateful for everything the agency organised for me, both before and after the journey (Jamin personally helped me book and organise a train from Lhasa to Xining, Qinghai) and was still checking up on me to see if I am alright. This speaks alot about a genuine, kind and remarkable human being, helping the local Tibetans, by employing local staff, and staying at local-run hotels and home-stays.
Thank you so much for everything Jamin. This was the trip of a lifetime and I have absolutely no regrets at all going through your company, and will highly recommend my friends and family to do so in that amazing part of the world. Rejoice in what you do for the Tibetan people and hope we can travel again together to the Himalayas! All the best! Thujechey.
Benny—Australia—May 2017

I went on a 23 day tour to western Tibet with Jamin, as a solo female traveler.
This was seriously once in a lifetime experience and it taught so much, I’m grateful for this exposure, it wouldn’t have been possible without Jamin’s knowledge, empathy and devotion to the Himalayas and Tibet.
Well organised logistics, great local guide Ngodup, very talented driver Pensuk and a rocking intern … what else we could have asked for!
Very safe, comfortable and to top it all we had great food throughout the journey.
Overall an authentic journey through Tibet … Keep up the amazing work Jamin!

 Vineeta—India—May 2017
I recently returned from an adventure: I spent 23 days on an amazing journey through Tibet organized by Himalaya Journey. From the very beginning till the departure from Lhasa, everything was perfectly well done. I couldn’t expect any better. Jamin’s passion and knowledge about Tibet, its culture, its history and its people was impressive. That increased our interest towards the real situation of tibetan people. We can not see Tibet and its people the same way we did before. He was always professional and very helpful when asked for. I’d also like to thanks to Ngodup (Tibetan guide), who taught us about Buddhism. As we had a few Buddhists in our group (9 people), it naturally enriched out visits to many temples. After Tibet, I also visited Nepal for a few days and thanks to Ashok (Nepal office manager for Himalaya Journey), everything also went extremely well.
I do recommend Himalaya Journey for anyone interested in real Tibet and Nepal. Thanks!
Sergio—Brazil—May 2017
I returned last month from Himalaya Journey’s May 2017 Lhasa, Everest, Mt Kailash Trek and Guge Kingdom tour. It really exceeded my expectations – the landscape, culture and people of Tibet were amazing, while Jamin and all his crew were tireless in guiding us on this adventure. Touring in such a remote area was often challenging but I’m grateful that I decided to pay a little more and go with Himalaya Journey – I saw many other groups and always felt that we had the best leadership, logistics and accommodations available. Most of all, Jamin’s total passion for Tibet opened up a whole new understanding for me of Tibet and the region generally. I’d recommend this outfit for anyone traveling in the area and hope to do so again with them in the future!
Johnny—Canada—May 2017
On my bucket list for a long time, I am really glad I chose to fulfill this dream with Jamin and his team. It was well planned, organized and eye opening. But what I enjoyed most about it were the friendships that resulted from this short overlap in time and space. I would whole heartedly recommend Jamin and his agency to anyone who wishes to travel in Tibet.
Madhav—India—April 2017
This is the trip you always dreamed about but never imagined could happen…It was by far my most memorable trip EVER; a magical historical adventure that brought Tibet to life. Jamin and his Tibetian guide Nymima, gave vivid descriptions and provided incredible knowledge, enthusiasm and a deep love and respect of this amazing region. From first contact to last minute of this adventure you will be treated royally; Jamin and his staff were always available to answer questions or provide advice. Unlike other tours, Jamin carefully designs his trips so you truly experience Tibet and are educated on the culture and people of this country. He will show you breath-taking views, magical sunrises and sunsets, and of course the stunning Mt. Everest in all her glory.
The photographer in me was thrilled beyond my wildest dreams. One of my most memorable moments was our impromptu stop in the farmers field to meet and photograph the Nomadic farmers and their fine oxen. The food was delicious and bountiful, accommodations went beyond all expectations, and the transportation is comfortable and well planned. If I had to describe this tour with on word it would be EPIC. I couldn’t recommend Jamin and Himalaya Journey more highly, and will definitely be traveling with this company again.
Jana—Canada—April 2017
From my first contact with Himalaya Journey they could not have been more helpful. They provide a first class and taylor made service. They not only matched us to the perfect Tibetan guide for our trip, they also provided us with assistance in Nepal pre and post our organised trip.
Kerri—Australia—April 2017

From the very first email almost 12 months prior to us travelling in Tibet, Jamin’s replies were prompt, full of details about Tibet and easy to understand instructions. He always followed up on emails and nothing was ever too much of a problem. When it came closer to the time of us travelling, Jamin was very thorough in his details about what the next step was. He made the process very easy and simple for us, whether it was booking a train, what to bring or how to make a payment. He is truly passionate about providing opportunities for the people of Tibet.

Our guide Palmo was a wonderful local woman who looked after the 6 of us. From meeting us at the train station in Lhasa to Everest base camp and everything in between, she was always happy, informative and enjoyed embracing and learning about our lifestyle as much as we learnt about hers. We highly recommend Jamin and his staff at Himalaya Journey.

Christine—Australia—April 2017

I just returned from a wonderful trip to Nepal that was organized by Himalaya Journey. They did a fantastic job of making sure that every detail was taken care of and did a wonderful job of planning and organizing everything. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone planning a trip to Nepal. Ashok and Dipesh were both attentive to all my needs and were so extremely helpful. Thanks guys for a great job.

Ed—USA—February 2017

All I can say is I feel VERY fortunate to have found Ashok and Himalaya Journey before I traveled to Nepal and Bhutan. I only had 3 weeks from the time I booked my ticket until the day I landed in Kathmandu – this was a last minute trip to a place I had never been to and had very little knowledge of. Turns out it was one of the best trips, if not THE best trip, I have ever taken (I’ve been to 20+ countries).

Ashok listened to my every request and delivered great results in a very short amount of time, gave sound advice and accommodated last minute changes I requested. EVERYTHING was managed for me – flights, hotels, taxis, permits, passes, tours, treks, safaris, etc. in both Nepal and Bhutan. For my 30 days there he put together the right mix of various types of locations, durations and activities – from various cities to remote villages to the jungle along with days with nothing planned which were needed and appreciated.

All of this was done professionally, with courtesy, at a very fair price. What more can you ask for? Do yourself a favor and save yourself some time and contact Ashok and tell him what you are looking to get out of your trip of a lifetime… and let him help you achieve your travel goals.

Tim—USA—January 2017

Did a tour with them for Bhutan! Excellent service. Information was really clear and my trip was amazing. I always got fast responses when I asked them questions and they did the most to make my stay and trip amazing.

Maura—Netherlands—January 2017

My husband and I recently returned from an absolutely amazing journey through Tibet and briefly to Nepal with Himalaya Journey. We really could not speak highly of the wonderful service provided by Jamin’s team, particularly our fabulous guide Nyima who taught us so much about the Tibetan culture. We would highly recommend Himalaya Journey to anyone who is considering a trip to Tibet/Nepal. From the first contact made, we found the communication very prompt, professional and we were confident that our holiday was in good hands! Our journey went just as smooth and we cannot thank Jamin and his team enough for all their hard work to make our trip a memorable one. Thanks again!

Almost without exception, travels have both an objective and certain expectations that need be met for the outcome to be judged successful. For me a ‘journey’ implies somewhat more than this….there is a sense of challenging the unknown, including one’s own inner self. And then if you add to ‘journey’ the word ‘Himalaya’, one of the world’s most majestic and inspiring regions with landscapes that are often beyond belief, then you have something very, very special indeed.

Prior to October 2016 I had travelled solo, with a guide and transportation, on all my journeys, including the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR), giving me the flexibility and freedom to stop at will, modify plans and so on. But having vowed to go back to the far west of the TAR (Ngari) to do the kora of Mount Kailash and visit the Guge Kingdom I was faced with exorbitant costs if travelling alone. I knew I had to find an alternative, and that alternative proved to be Himalaya Journey.

I had been in touch with Jamin York, Himalaya Journey’s Owner and Lead Guide, several times previously with general questions about travelling in ‘Greater Tibet’ and so it somehow seemed natural to approach him regarding making my Kailash dream materialize. One thing led to another and by the time 2015 melted into 2016 I was committed to joining Jamin’s small (10 person) group embarking on a 23-day journey in October which would take us across the TAR from Lhasa slowly westwards via Everest and Shishapangma Base Camps to Lake Manasarovar, Mount Kailash and the Guge Kingdom, and then back…a total land journey of around 4,000km.

My initial concerns about being in a group and having to keep to a strict schedule proved groundless. Jamin was only too willing to stop for sudden photo ops—the appearance of a Tibetan fox, a glorious view, a nomad encampment and so on. He also actively encouraged us to explore on our own when the itinerary permitted: in my case that meant spending special moments wandering through the Barkor in Lhasa and watching sunrise on the shore of Manasarovar.  Only once were we ‘chivvied’ in any sense, and that was during the Kailash kora on top of the Drolma-la. Jamin, with his vast experience of the mountains, was aware not only of the time constraints that day but more importantly that staying too long at that altitude (5,630m/ around 18,400’) was not to be recommended.

From a practical standpoint, everything throughout the journey was seamlessly arranged: we travelled in a small bus which gave us space to spread out and with a driver whose skills made going over 5,000m+ high passes again and again seem effortless! The hotels and guest houses, especially once we got beyond Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse, were always the best available: I had paid a single room supplement, fully expecting to have to share in these remote areas, so I was delighted that there were only two nights on which I could not have some much appreciated privacy. The meals were generally of a high standard, and even in Ngari Jamin managed to rustle something tasty up for us or produce snack bars and packets of instant oatmeal out of his proverbial hat.

What also emerged strongly throughout our journey was Jamin’s love for and commitment to Tibet and its people, not to mention his in-depth knowledge.  His assistant on our journey, Nordrup, was himself Tibetan; we frequented Tibetan-owned restaurants, hotels and guesthouses whenever possible; and Jamin, fluent in Tibetan as well as Mandarin, regaled us while we were on the road with both incidents from Tibetan history and his own personal experiences of living there.

It was an unforgettable journey…indeed, although I left Tibet many weeks ago now, my journey is still on-going as I look back at my photos and notebook and try to weave it all into a story on my laptop.

I have the greatest respect and admiration for Jamin both as a person and journey-leader and have no reservations at all in recommending him and his company. Indeed, I hope to join him again in the future on a journey to Ladakh, ‘Little Tibet’: I believe that is the strongest recommendation of all.

I would like to acknowledge and thank lead guide and owner, Jamin York, co-guide Tenzin Ngodup, and staff at Himalaya Journey for a fantastic trip to Far Western Tibet in October 2016. Not able to secure permits in the past to the TAR area of Tibet, I wasn’t confident it would ever happen until I talked with Jamin York.  He assured me and my two travelling companions that he could make it happen, and he did.  I am still on a “Tibet High” after our 23 day journey to Mt. Kailash, the Guge Kingdom and every experience in between! Additionally, because of Jamin’s careful planning of our itinerary and attention to our acclimatization to altitude, we were able to successfully complete the Kora of Mt. Kailash!  The dream of a lifetime!

The trip far exceeded my expectations and I will definitely use Himalaya Journey again.  I highly recommend Himalaya Journey to others who want to experience this hauntingly beautiful place called Tibet!

Sue—USA—October 2016

I meet Jamin a couple of years ago at Xining, after I had to resign one of their trip at 2013, because I had to back home early from China. After our meeting at 2014, and talking about my trips to Tibet, I told him that I would love to join some group to Kailash Mountain. And in the end of 2015 I wrote him  to join a group on a long trip to Kailash and Guge Kingdom in 2016. After a big change at my life, I decide to go, and really was a very special trip for me due the past months. To do the Kailash Kora or Pilgrimage was a long dream and this was the year, and Jamin was our tour leader. Everything was perfect!!!! And really you can feel that how he loves the Tibetan people and all the knowledge that he has about it, and share with you when you are traveling with him.

Thanks a lot for to do of that trip the best of my life in Tibet !!! and I had been five times before at Tibet. Hope to back again in some groups, but….. do not forget Patagonia, is waiting for you!!! All the best!!!

Alex—Chile—October 2016

I took a fabulous and life changing tour of western Tibet with Jamin and Himalaya Journey last October.  Highlights include Lhasa, Everest and Shishapangma Base Camps, a pilgrimage kora around Mt. Kailash, a visit to the Guge Kingdom, and interactions with Tibetan people.  Jamin’s knowledge and passion for the Tibetan people is evident in his descriptions and stories throughout the journey.  He is a master story teller – telling detailed personal accounts of his 14 plus years of experience living in Tibet.   He wants to support the Tibetan people, and he does this by staying and eating in Tibetan run hotels and restaurants and by hiring excellent Tibetan guides whom he trains.

Jamin wants you to experience the lives of Tibetans.  During our trip, we made impromptu stops to visit nomads, interact with locals in small villages or on farms, and to experience their passionate religious lifestyle during Pilgrimage walks around the Jokhang, the Potala Palace, Tashilhunpo Monastery, and Mount Kailash.  I was able to interact and hear stories from two of Himalaya Journey’s Tibetan guides – Ngodup and Champa.  They shared so much of their lives and personalities – it was priceless.  At the end of our journey, Ngodup gave us an opportunity to experience a Tibetan nightclub in Shigatse, Tibet’s second largest city.  The music, dancing, and hospitality etched a positive image that I will never forget.  During a free afternoon in Lhasa, Champa took me on a souvenir journey to a local Tibetan market (free of westerners) and to the Muslim quarter where you could see wholesalers trading caterpillar fungus known for its medicinal properties.  If you go on a Himalaya Journey trip and Champa offers a shopping or side trip, take it!

If you are a photographer, a trip with Himalaya Journey is a must.  Jamin and his guides allow ample time for photos.  Jamin is an accomplished photographer as evident from his website. When the light is just right, our small bus made several stops to capture the moment.  We stopped frequently to photograph wildlife.

Finally, Jamin did an amazing job organizing everything and planning our trip.  He’s like a close friend, checking in on how you are doing – how you are dealing with the altitude.  If there are any issues, he deals with them promptly and knowledgably.    Jamin, thank you for such a great trip!
Tom—USA—October 2016

I’d have to use a ridiculous number of superlatives to honestly describe the quality of my recent journey with Jamin York and Himalaya Journey. In the interest of being believable, I’ll try to rein it in, but it will be a task I’m not sure I can manage! For me, this was a journey that I (and a couple friends) have spent many years and two failed attempts trying to accomplish. The permits were just not to be had, and we were beginning to feel that the idea must be abandoned. Then we discovered Jamin’s excellent website and, after a number of emails with him, began to feel confident that it could become a reality. I just completed a 23-day journey, led by Jamin and his wonderful guide Ngodup, that not only fulfilled my hope to complete the kora of Mt. Kailash and a visit to the lost Guge Kingdom, but took us across the length of the Tibetan Himalaya from Everest Base Camp to nearly the Indian border in far west Tibet. He even threw in Shishapangma Base Camp at the request of our group.

Each day, every step of the way, revealed such wondrous gifts, some expected and others a complete surprise. This journey, and the itinerary designed by Jamin and Ngodup, had it all, from monasteries and lost citadels, to landscapes beyond imagination: mountains, badlands, sand dunes, vast plateaus, and sacred lakes. And then there were our “Tibet 101” talks: Jamin and Ngodup each have a deep and personal knowledge which was shared each day as we traveled or walked; they taught us so much about the culture, geology, and history of Tibet and its people; and each shared many personal stories as well. Jamin has a heartfelt love for the Tibetan people that was evident in every way. Jamin cares genuinely and deeply about the quality of the experience his journeys provide, and he makes it his responsibility to see that both the physical and emotional needs of his travelers are met. His attention to detail in all matters was clear to see. I have never before joined a group that was not organized by myself, and I have to say that this was a pleasant surprise. I never felt that we were being herded around and there was, for the most part, enough flexibility in the days and the schedule to allow personal time and space.

I imagine that every traveler in our group felt “heard” and “seen” and that his or her unique expectations for this journey had been fulfilled. I can say that for me, the experience was transcendent. I would recommend Jamin’s Himalaya Journey without reservation to anyone wanting to travel in Tibet – or anywhere he offers to travel!

Karla—USA—October 2016

Jamin York leads a fantastic trip beyond the usual (and including!) sites of Lhasa. He takes great pains to preview routes, lodging and restaurants in person and is careful to limit his group to a comfortable ten. His attention to detail has him preparing contingency plans for any circumstance he can think of. His knowledge of the Chinese and Tibetan languages eased our way through the expected and unexpected. Nothing is sugar-coated as the journey can be rough and uncomfortable at times, but if there was comfort in the area, we had it! Jamin also has the uncanny ability to arrange for perfect weather and the tastiest of Tibetan cuisine.

On advance request he added a side trip to Shishapangma Base Camp which ended up being a popular highlight on a stunning day. The extension to the lost citadel of the Guge Kingdom was the holy grail of photographic opportunities. On second thought, most of the trip was like this!

Even though it can be close to impossible to deviate from “The Plan” due to restrictions, Jamin and Nordrup facilitated spontaneous interactions with Tibetans along the way, from the barley harvesters and millers to the nomads and their yaks.

Nancy—USA—October 2016

I contacted a number of different tour companies about my trip through Tibet last year and Jamin from Himalaya Journey was by far the most professional with his responses and organised a fantastic trip for us. When you first start organising a trip to Tibet the paperwork can seem a little daunting but with Himalaya Journey everything went very smoothly and everything was organised faster and easier than I expected. Once in Tibet we had great guides, drivers, vehicles and a trekking team. I would highly recommend Himalaya Journey for anyone planning a trip to Tibet or other Himalayan regions.

Stuart from Rough Guide/Lonely Planet Guidebooks—UK—September 2016

Himalaya Journey is run by Jamin, a very friendly and knowledgable American who has spent years living and travelling around Tibet, China, Nepal and the Himalayas. He has plenty of stories to tell, has insights into history and culture of the region and is an all-round great guy. You’ll be in safe, good hands with Jamin and Himalaya Journey!

Shawn from Lonely Planet Guidebooks—Singapore—June 2016

Our safety, health, and happiness were always a top priority and Jamin is a top notch tour leader in every sense of the word. I can’t imagine a better person in this role!

I took my dream trip to Tibet and Mt. Everest with Jamin and Himalaya Journey this April. From the minute we landed in Lhasa to the birthday banquet in a Tibetan home restaurant on the last day, his staff and friends surrounded us like a big family.  He is truly their brother.

The photography time was not just for the magnificent and mystified monasteries. It included Himalaya mountain ranges, glaciers, rivers, and villages, etc. We even stopped by a farming field one time and participated in their plowing and seeding activities.

The Mt. Everest sunrise photo experience was a well thought-out plan. Spending the night before in a nearby Tibetan home and mingling with the entire family was quite an experience. We played hide and seek with the neighboring children on the street. We chatted with village shepherds in the field herding their sheep home and showing off their baby sheep. When we headed out to catch the sunrise, the full moon lit up the entire village.

Jamin is a natural when it comes to telling stories. He preps us on the history, religion, culture and politics of Tibet. But what really connects us to this land and its people are his stories of his Tibetan friends, their struggles and triumphs. We also engaged in questioning and debating with gusto, Sera Monastery monk style, ha, ha, ha.

Ruth—USA/Taiwan—April 2016

I highly recommend travelling with Jamin and his Himalaya Journey team to Tibet. He cares about Tibetans and and he cares about Tibet, a country which has an inherent fascination for many. Jamin has lived in Tibet for many years and has visited the iconic attractions on numerous occasions. He willingly shares his knowledge and insights about their history and cultural significance. Despite his familiarity he brings a fresh approach and willingness to engage. His team are a credit to him, particularly the exuberant Jampa. His staff member Woaber helped me ensure Lhasa has forever a place in my heart and  …… our bus driver was safe and considerate. And let’s not forget the energetic Will, assistant guide on this trip. I didn’t expect to eat as well as I did when visiting Tibet nor did I expect to experience the comfort in the hotels that were used. These aspects were of course a pleasant surprise. The memories of this trip from Lhasa to Everest base camp will be long lasting and thought provoking.

Richard—UK—April 2016

A wonderful, wonderful experience !!!! 5 Stars !!!

I have traveled in most areas of the world during the last forty years; traveling in over thirty countries. I have traveled as a solo and with guides. My tour with Jamin was absolutely exceptional in every way.
Jamin is a thorough and thoughtful guide who is completely familiar with every facet of the journey. He is personable, knowledgeable, and gives great attention to every detail from first contact to the final bus back to Lhasa airport. He and his excellent staff are well known and can “get things done” in a way that gives the traveler security, insight and intimate access into the people and culture.

It is clear from the love and camaraderie demonstrated by the locals, that his long commitment to the Tibetan people has touched many. I highly endorse and recommend Jamin and his company. Thank you for a life changing experience.

Scott—USA—April 2016

I’ve been a follower of Jamin on Instagram since 2013. Initially, it was my mom’s dream to see Mt Everest, but ended up doing this trip on my own because I knew that Jamin was a professional, trust worthy expert on Tibet. I usually never join small group tours, as I always travel on my own. But, joining this journey made me realize that not all group tours are the same after all. I met people on this journey that I will call my friends for life. Jamin is indeed the best travel coordinator that I have ever met. I went to Tibet to just see Mt Everest, but I came back home not just with great photos and videos, but with a person I can always look up to who is making a huge impact in Tibet by promoting and showing it to the world in an ethical way. I also work in the travel industry, but am still quite young. I am not sure if I can ever be quite like Jamin who does this business not just to make money for himself, but to help the Tibetan people in every possible way he can. He is an inspiration. I finally found my hero in this crazy competitive travel industry.

Angely from Access Tours and Travels—Phillippines—April 2016

Two years ago, I almost gave up my life-long dream of going to Tibet. But it is completely revived when I discovered Jamin’s blog (The Land of Snows) and his Instagram page.

Jamin is a fantastic leader right from the beginning of the trip, when I emailed him, till the very end of this incredible journey. His passion and vast knowledge about the Tibetan culture, history, religion, and the careful planning of the trip, has made this journey an enriching one. And I truly admire his support for the Tibetan community, where we stay and dine in Tibetan-run hotels/restaurants. Last but not least, his great sense of humour and captivating life stories always add colour to every day of our trip!

Our Tibetan guide, Jampa, is also a fantastic guide who passionately shares a lot of knowledge about Tibet and Tibetan Buddhism with us. As a Buddhist, I have learned so much about Tibetan Buddhism from her. She’s just a wonderful, kind and fun person to be with! I am grateful to have her as our Tibetan guide for this trip.

All in all, Jamin and Jampa are two wonderful guides/friends/teachers that I met through this trip. And they are definitely two people that I am glad to have crossed paths with in life.

The ten days spent in Tibet have been truly an adventure of a lifetime, and a spiritually enlightening experience for me. The stunning landscape and unique culture of Tibet is a feast for the eyes, while the devotion of the Tibetans feels like a comforting prayer for the soul. The resilience, devotion and compassion of the Tibetans will stay and go far with me in life. I highly recommend Jamin and his Himalaya Journey team to lead your trip to Tibet. And I already can’t wait to go for another adventure with them! Thank you once again for the most amazing journey of my life.

Adhianto—Indonesia—April 2016

Going on a journey with Jamin, Champa, Tashi or any of his other incredible and highly professional staff is an experience of a lifetime.  As an intern, it was an endless learning opportunity for me.

This is their everyday life. They welcome us all into it and leave you feeling like a part of the family longing to return.  Every action comes from a loving place and the utmost consideration is put into making the challenging geography of Tibet as hospitable and safe as humanly possible.  Everything from the brilliantly arranged itinerary to the random stops and detailed information being shared all along the way demonstrate this.

While on the road between destinations hours turn to minutes with tear-jerking, harrowing, and awe-inspiring stories from Jamin.  I can not imagine a leader with more kindness, strength and flexibility than Jamin.  I owe you my deepest thanks and gratitude Jamin (and Himalaya Journey), thank you for everything.

Will—Canada—April 2016

Having visited almost all of Asia over the years, Tibet was for me the ‘last frontier’ and I found that I had pretty much left the best till last. And I reckon that with Himalaya Journey (Jamin, his offsider Ben and local guide Jampa), I travelled with the best! Firstly, Jamin’s travel planning and attention to detail was exemplary, ensuring not a single snag on the whole trip. Secondly, with all three being long-time Tibetan residents, their knowledge of the Tibetan people, their culture, customs, history, religion etc was second to none, and was often recounted in a most entertaining way. Finally, they were just fun people to be around and made the whole trip most enjoyable. Thanks guys, and good luck with your future endeavours!

Neil—Australia—October 2015

Jamin has 14 plus years experience of living in Tibet and is fluent in Chinese and Tibetan. He has leveraged this experience to provide a carefully thought out, truly unique and unforgettable experience. He clearly has a huge passion for Tibet and its people and that is infectious. His ‘inside knowledge’ of the history, politics and travel bought the beauty and tragedy of Tibet to life. Every day he managed to pull yet another ‘wow’ moment ‘out of the hat’ during the many opportunities to interact with the local farmers and villagers.

Jamin works within the Tibetan community to employ Tibetan Guides, drivers etc and all restaurants and Hotels we stayed at were Tibetan owned. This opens up rarely available employment opportunities to Tibetans and enables them to learn and to develop their skills. The bottom line is, it gives them hope.

The other tour leaders, Ben (USA) and Jampa (Tibet) were wonderful. They seemed to be having as much fun as we were! They were thoughtful, kind and funny and kept us entertained throughout.  All three went above and beyond to make sure that everyone had the best experience possible. I would not hesitate to recommend Himalaya Journey and am already planning my next adventure with them!

Alison—New Zealand—October 2015

To say my trip to Tibet was incredible is an understatement. The scenery, the people, Mt Everest, it all seemed surreal and I couldn’t believe I was finally there. What made this experience even more amazing was traveling with Himalaya Journey. This was my first group tour I’ve ever taken and it exceeded my expectations! I felt like I was on a road trip with long lost friends. Jamin, Ben, and the whole crew took the best care of of us. I never drank so much water in my life! Truly the most fun and memorable trip of my life.

Olivia—USA—October 2015

Just like for many, a trip to Tibet is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I had saved money for sometime, thinking that I would make sure I go with the experienced group leader who knows Tibet well. When I came across Jamin’s website, I was immediately captivated. The trip offered was a combination of the things I wanted. So my sister and I signed up for the trip for Spring 2015.

Being someone who lives in Jakarta, practically a city only a few meters above sea level with hot weather all year long, I prepared myself to face Tibetan spring weather and the worst during acclimatisation. I found drinking a lot of water (and I mean a lot!)  and resting whenever I needed to helped in the acclimatisation process. So, whenever Jamin reminded you to drink water, please do! And…Tibetan spring sometimes felt like full on winter for me! Luckily I brought enough warm clothes with me.

Apart from following the itinerary, I truly appreciate the impromptu stops at additional nice spots we saw on the way, whenever possible. When we couldn’t follow our itinerary (due to earthquake in Nepal), Jamin always offered alternatives and made sure our safety is top priority.

Jamin is also very knowledgeable about Tibet. It is very interesting to learn about Tibetan culture from the eye of non-Tibetan who has lived in Tibet for so long. I also appreciate that Jamin deliberately chose to work together with Tibetan guides and driver, we stayed at Tibetan-run hotels and had our meals at Tibetan restaurants. The encounter with the locals made such a difference that the trip did not feel like ‘photo-click-then-go-to-next-spot’ kind of group trip for me. All my expectations checked – above and beyond. I definitely recommend to join Jamin and his team for your tour in Tibet.

Mia—Indonesia—April 2015

Jamin—Thank you, thank you, thank you! You have really made my trip to Tibet truly unforgettable and I already can’t wait to return to explore more of it. Thank you for your limitless patience in answering all my pesky questions about Tibet and for your enthusiasm and passion for Tibet and its people….that was truly inspiring to see. I can’t wait to tell more people to come to this beautiful land to see it for themselves.

Swetha—India—April 2015

My trip to Tibet was a long time in the making, but I finally got there. Oh what a wonderful experience it was. Snow blizzards, earthquakes but most of all, we did it. I went with two of my lovely friends from Perth. We had loads of fun. And we have taken away so many humbling experiences from our time there. The people of Tibet were very warm and open. Their dedication towards Buddhism was astounding. Our experience would not have been possible without the hard drive and determination of our tour leader (Jamin) and guide and interpreter (Champa) and let’s not forget our driver. We were in Tibet in the time of the terrible earthquake in Nepal and Tibet. This could of caused lots of issues, but Jamin and team were determined to get us to our destination. And against the odds we made it to within 2km of base camp. Couldn’t go all the ways as the area was closed due to earthquake. I recommend this trip, it’s a trip of a life time. You get to meet great people and see breathtaking views.

Kelly—Australia—April 2015

The day before we were scheduled to set off to Mount Everest area, the devastating earthquake took place in Nepal which affected the border areas of Tibet. With very limited news about the situation in Tibet, we were clouded with uncertainty and worries whether we should / could go ahead with our itinerary to the Mount Everest base camp. Thanks to Jamin’s relentless efforts to reach out to all his contacts to confirm the safety and the access of the routes, our group managed to see the magnificent Mount Everest as planned.

During the whole journey, we very much enjoyed the stories Jamin shared with us based on his vast knowledge of Tibetan history, life and culture. He is basically a Tibetan himself having spent 10+ years on the Tibetan plateau. We especially admire the business philosophy of Himalaya Journey which supports and partners with Tibetan-owned business in all the tour arrangement including accommodation, meals, guides and drivers.

Our Tibetan guide, Jampa, was always enthusiastic in explaining to us the history and stories of the sight-seeing places we visited and always very caring for each of us. She is a very amiable person and the bond that she formed with all of us in the group and also with our Tibetan driver Gyentse was unforgettable.

Our Tibet trip in April 2015 was truly a once-in-lifetime experience. We were so glad and lucky to have found Jamin’s blog “Land of Snows” and learnt about this cultural photography tour. We would never do this trip differently!

June and Josse—Hong Kong and The Netherlands—April 2015

Jamin is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Tibetan history, culture, and religion. What I appreciate most is his objective perspective. Throughout the journey Jamin is very attentive and addressed any unforeseen issues very carefully and professionally. At the end of the trip everyone became friends and it was very sad to see it come to an end. I could not have asked for a better companion and guide.

Isaac—USA—April 2014

I was researching about traveling in Tibet 2 years ago, and stumbled onto Jamin’s blog “The Land of Snows”. Since then I decided to participate in this year’s  “Overland Journey – Lhasa, Tibet to Everest Base Camp (EBC)”. From the moment we met Jamin at Xining Airport, I was impressed by how attentive he is to all of us tour participants. Jamin clearly understands until we “sea-level folks” are acclimated to the high altitude, it wasn’t going to be an easy trip.

The tour was 12 days’ travel, overland round trip between Lhasa and EBC. Very quickly we knew we were in for a fantastic journey, which took us from Tibetan cities to monasteries, from farming villages to glacial mountain passes. With his knowledge of Tibetan culture, Jamin was the prefect companion capable to give us full understanding of life on the high plateau. Furthermore, Jamin’s choice of food and lodging fittingly brought our patronage to Tibetan owned businesses. We were glad for this arrangement.

You see, I have always considered Tibet to be much more than a beautiful place: The Tibetans’ incredible manifestation of faith; Enduring immense hardship for reincarnation into a better life; Their compassion toward all living creatures, are qualities we should endear but overlooked. It takes more than a tour guide to reveal what lies behind what we were staring at. Throughout the trip, accompanied by snow-capped mountains, I began to see how much Jamin must love Tibet. Perhaps realizing this inevitability, was the most rewarding in our journey with him.

Edison—USA/Hong Kong—April 2014

This was by far the most amazing adventure I have ever taken in my life! The scenery, the architecture and the culture of the Tibetan people is unlike anything else I have come across in my many years of travel. Our Tibetan guide Tashi not only spoke English well, but he was able to clearly explain, in detail, intricate parts of Tibetan culture with us in English. He was so fun to spend 10 days traveling around Tibet with!  Jamin did an amazing job organizing everything and planning our trip. His knowledge of Tibetan culture and history is amazing….he’s like having a walking text-book on Tibetan history with you each day. I had wanted to go to Tibet for many years and thanks to Himalaya Journey, I had an amazing time. Thank you so much!

Melissa—Canada—August 2013

Jamin and Tashi, our guides and travel companions on this fabulous amazing and memorable trip through Nangchen County. Jamin , a Tibetan I am sure in a previous incarnation! Generous to a fault in all he did and prepared for this trip. Knowledgable, passionate and always patient. Tashi was caring and helpful, answering any question with complete honesty and willingness. There was also Gonkho in Xining, for whom no request was too much. A great team for a great fabulous and wholesome experience.

The mountains and valleys , the Tibetans, the monasteries the monks and the nuns. The Chortens and the thousands of prayer flags. The mighty rivers and the endless and amazing blue sky. The Yaks, blue sheep birds of prey and marmots. And the many many amazing flowers that are flowering in a rainbow of colours. And the fantastic koras we all undertook. Thank you!

Cilla—Switzerland—June 2013

Jamin provided us with a such an amazing, perhaps “once-in-a-lifetime” experience that will not soon be forgotten. From yak thukpa to drives through glacial valleys to Everest Base Camp, every moment brought with it a new sensation and truly created a breathtaking experience of Tibet. These guys were thoughtful, considerate, professional, and took such great care of us along the way. I couldn’t count how many times we heard the three questions: “how are you feeling today?”, “how’d you sleep last night?”, or “do you need bottled water?” At high altitudes, these questions can be life saving, and Jamin and his staff made certain to check in on us throughout the duration of our trip… even when they themselves weren’t feeling 100%. If anyone felt ill or uncomfortable, they simply took care of it. Bottom line: I wouldn’t go to Tibet with any other folks, folks. The expertise on the area, the choice of accommodations and food, the willingness to help when needed, and the overall friendliness of these gentlemen made the trip. Thank you again, guys, and maybe I’ll see you next year!

Nicole—USA—April 2011

You have taken the time and put significant effort to make it memorable. I look at the images I have taken, not a day to day basis, but as a total experience and I can only say that it was a unique and wonderful two weeks. You have picked great guides; Tashi and Wussar (our local Tibetan guides) are two great individuals, proud of their Tibetan heritage, knowledgeable, and with a great heart. No one can argue with Jamin’s vast understanding and knowledge of Tibet. Jamin’s love of Tibet is so obvious and admirable. I think that it is important to note that all of you saved no effort to make it a great trip and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I believe your approach and attitude positively affected the group in its formation and the overall friendly environment. One “small” request – can you add some greenery to the plateau’s desert? All the best and thanks again!

Ruti—Israel—April 2011

This trip was everything and more. I learning so much about photography, mechanically (in all situations of lighting and fast paced street moments) and humanity (connecting with the locals) in such an incredible landscape and culture, such as Tibet will be hard to top. It was all down to Jamin, Brian and their staff…perceptive, intelligent, comical & generous blokes made this happen for us all. They got us around and into places I definitely would not have been able to go with my camera, travelling alone or in a general tour. That is for sure. I have learned more in the many days of the tour, than I have by my own trial and error than all my time photographing put together. I felt at complete ease, right from the introductions. All my questions were answered concisely with the added bonus of walking away laughing my pants off. The humour was infectious and constant. The boys cultural knowledge was rich and full. Again all questions were always answered. I still can not get over how Himalaya Journey  thought up and made this trip happen considering all they must come up against, with strong rules and regulations, let alone handling and making happy a load of wide eyed eclectic characters as we were! A true trip of a lifetime, which will always leave me feeling warm and rewarded. I love you guys! – Thanks is not enough !

Simon—UK—April 2011

Adventure of a lifetime…another notch in the bucket list! Brian and Jamin were knowledgable, approachable, and perpetually concerned about everyones well being. This trip was an incredible value in all parameters, I would highly recommend entrusting your hard-earned vacation dollars with them!

Jim—USA—April 2011

I have been filming documentaries around the world for over 10 years now, mainly for the BBC. And I have to say that Jamin and his Himalaya Journey crew were definitely one of the best fixers I’ve worked with.

From the onset Jamin understood editorially and logistically what our needs involved. He was able to come up with location suggestions, provide an accurate and realistic idea of what we could expect to film, as he and his Tibetan colleagues have a wealth of experience and understand the culture, the landscape and the political situation. He provided us with a very comprehensive and excellent research (notes and photos included).

As always with filming things change and both Jamin and his team were flexible, and were also great at thinking one-step ahead on logistics. All logistics were covered  from transport; making sure that all the crew were safe, providing excellent translators that spoke the various dialects and back into English; being well fed even in remote areas; that the best and most appropriate accommodation was found and that the contributors we were filming with were well researched, and that they understood what we wanted to film.

All in all, I felt my UK crew were in very safe and experienced hands with Jamin. I would definitely recommend Jamin and Himalaya Journey and I would definitely work with them all again.
