Day 1: Arrive to Paro International Airport and drive to Thimphu
The first day of your journey will have you arrive to Paro, Bhutan's only international airport. At the airport you will be met by your Bhutanese guide and driver and make the 55 kilometer / 34 mile drive to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Along the way, you will stop at the Tamchhog Lhakang Temple. This temple has a beautiful bridge spanning the Paro River. This bridge was rebuilt in 2005 using some chain links dating back to the 15th century. You will also stop to photograph village life in either Bondey or Namseling. In Thimphu, you will settle into your hotel and if time permits, explore Trashi Choe Dzong (fortress), which lies along the banks of the Wang Chhu River. Drive time from the Paro International Airport to Thimphu is about 1.5 hours.
Day 2: Explore Thimphu and return to Paro
This day you will explore many of the main sites in Bhutan's capital city of Thimphu. The first place you will go to is located far above the town of Thimphu. The huge statue of Buddha Sakyamuni sits on a mountainside overlooking the Thimphu Valley. You will also go to the National Memorial Chorten (stupa), which was built to honor the 3rd king of Bhutan in 1974. Each day, local Bhutanese come here to pray, meditate and spin Buddhist prayer wheels. You will then visit the Changlimithang Archery Ground to see some of Bhutan's best archers competing (Archery is Bhutan's National Sport). Next, you will visit our friends at Simply Bhutan, where you will learn about traditional village life. From there you will visit the National Textile Museum to learn about Bhutan's living art of weaving. After spending most of the day exploring Thimphu, you will make the 1.5 hour drive to Paro.
Day 3: Paro and Taktsang Tiger's Nest Monastery
After breakfast, you will make the short drive to the trailhead leading to Taktsang, or Tiger's Nest Monastery. The monastery requires a 2 hour hike through a nice forested mountainside (trail is very safe). Situated on the side of a mountain some 900 meters / 3000 feet above the valley floor. Tiger's Nest is Bhutan's most iconic and most famous temple and is a highlight of any journey to Bhutan. After going up to Tiger's Nest, you will make the hike down and have lunch at a nice restaurant along the way. The remaining part of the day you will explore the beautiful temple of Kyichu Lhakang as well as the National Museum and the picturesque Paro Dzong. You will also have time to do some shopping in downtown Paro.

4 Day Thimphu, Tiger's Nest and Paro Journey
The Bhutan government tourism council has 2 different rates for travelers. One is a low season rate and the other the high season rate. Prices for journeys in Bhutan are higher in the high season and lower in low season, which is why Himalaya Journey offers 2 prices for all Bhutan tours. In Bhutan, the high season months are March, April and May and then again in September, October and November. The low season months are June, July and August and again in December, January and February.
The high season months are generally dry and offer better views of the mountains. The low season months of June, July and August can bring heavy monsoon rains. The low season months of December, January and February are generally clear and dry, but can be a little cold in higher elevation areas. With a warm jacket, the winter months can be an excellent time to visit Bhutan.
